What a halal, family-involved search looks like online
A halal search online looks much like a good search offline: clear intentions of marriage, families who can take part, and respectful conversations.
On RishteDesk nobody can message you simply because they have seen your profile. A member first sends an interest, and a conversation opens only after both sides accept. That small step keeps the search calm and considered, and it gives families time to talk things over before replying. Our guide on parents in the online rishta search explains how parents and their children can work through this together.
Wali presence and the family circle
In many Muslim families the wali, often the father or another senior male relative, plays a central part in agreeing a rishta and in the nikah itself, while mothers and sisters often begin the search. RishteDesk supports this with a family circle. You can give a parent, sibling or wali access so they can follow interests and conversations openly, and nothing happens behind anyone's back.
Sect and practice filters
Muslim families differ in their traditions, and RishteDesk treats every one of them with equal respect. You can record your sect, whether Sunni, Shia or another tradition, or simply describe yourself as Muslim with no further label. You then choose whether a shared sect is a non-negotiable or simply a preference.
We never rank one tradition above another, and we do not give religious rulings. If you would like to read more, see our pages for Sunni rishta and Shia rishta. Many families find that talking about daily practice, such as prayer, dress, occasions and how children will be raised, tells them more than any label. Our list of questions to ask in a rishta meeting can help keep those conversations kind and honest.
Muslim rishta in Pakistan and around the world
Pakistan comes first for us. Families can search by city, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, or find a rishta by city across the country. You can also browse rishta in Pakistan or our wider page on Pakistani matrimony.
Many Muslim families have children abroad, and a Muslim rishta between Pakistan and another country is very common. See our pages for Pakistani matrimony in the UK, the UAE, the USA and Malaysia, as well as Muslim rishta in India and overseas Pakistani matrimony. When families live in different countries, it helps to agree early where the couple will live and how any visa process will work; our guide to overseas Pakistani rishtas covers what to settle before the nikah.
How RishteDesk differs from dating apps
RishteDesk is not a dating site, and it was never designed to feel like one. The differences are practical:
- Marriage only. Every member is here to find a spouse, and profiles are written with that in mind.
- Reviewed by a person. Every profile is checked by a member of our team before it goes live.
- Families welcome. Parents and a wali can take part openly through the family circle.
- Interests first. Conversations open only when both sides accept an interest.
- Private by default. Photos stay private unless you choose to share them, and profiles are never shown to search engines.
Privacy for Muslim families
On RishteDesk your phone number and email are never shown to other members. You decide who can see your photos. When you are ready to talk, you can use in-app voice or video calls without exchanging numbers, so nobody has your personal details until you choose to share them.
Verification badges
Members can earn verification badges through a selfie check, an ID document check and a video call with our team. They do not replace your own checks. Confirm identity, education, work and any previous marriage yourself, speak to the family, and meet at home before anything is agreed. Our rishta verification checklist sets out what to check.
Getting started
Getting started is simple and free:
- Create a profile for yourself, or for a son, daughter, brother or sister, with their knowledge and consent.
- Record your religion, sect, city and marital status, and set your non-negotiables.
- Write an honest description; our matrimonial profile example shows what works well.
- Add your parents or wali to your family circle.
- Wait for your profile to be reviewed, then begin sending and receiving interests.
A profile is free, and every Premium feature is free during our launch. See our membership plans for details.
Staying safe
Be cautious of anyone who asks for money, pushes to move the conversation to WhatsApp quickly, avoids video calls, or refuses to involve their family. Never send money or documents to someone you have not met with your families. Our guide to matrimonial fraud and rishta scams explains the warning signs, and you can report any profile to our team at any time.
